Our Story
Dan Harrison:
Growing up in Colorado I think I cut my teeth fly-fishing the rivers and streams of this great state. I formed a love of the outdoors and pursued a career in being there. I started falling timber in Northern CA. and worked for one of the largest sawmills in the U.S. I started my own timber company and I worked with private land owners managing their lands to maximize their profits. With sound environmental practices along with maximizing their recreational assets I began my career in the outdoors. For the past 30 years I’ve worked with landowners manage with a sound conservation practices for endangered/threatened species in most of the western states. I have also been a Real Estate agent in the state of Montana specializing in land and ranch sales. I am an active Board member for the Mule Deer Foundation (http://muledeer.org) and I am also the hunting ambassador for the Congressional Sportsman’s Foundation (http://https://congressionalsportsmen.org/about/ambassador-program/dan-harrison).
In the late 90’s I took over management of a 50,000 deeded acre ranch in Colorado. With unlimited and untapped recreational opportunities I brought this ranch to one of the top 5 hunting destinations in the U.S. for western big game mule deer, elk and bear. During this time which I feel is my greatest achievement, we introduced well over 300 hundred young hunters and women to this great sport. In association with the ranch I also ran a wilderness outfitted hunt in the Eagles Nest wilderness area of CO. We offered horseback hunts for elk, mule deer and bear. During this time, I also started Colorado Mountain Adventures/Harrisons Hunting to the present time. We run a pack’ in wilderness hunting camp on the western slope wilderness of the Grand Mesa. We run a five-star tent camp in the wilderness. Harrison’s Hunting also operates in Eastern CO., Montana, California and also Manitoba Canada.
With over 30yrs of being in the outdoors and guiding for the past 20yrs has led me to being a guest host for nine seasons on The Best and Worst of Tred Barta. During the nine seasons this show ranked as one of the number one watched outdoor shows on the Neilson charts. This show has aired on Versus and now NBC Sports Outdoors. Beginning the fall of 2012 I will also Co-Host and be an elk expert on Elk Fever. This show has also been on top of the charts on Versus and NBC Sports Outdoors. In 2016 I accepted a position with Remington Arms hosting Remington Country TV. I have also made appearances on Cabelas Sportsman Quest, Nartual Gears Wildlife Quest, Rugers Hunting Adventures, the World of Beretta, Bennelli’s Outdoor Adventures, TNT Outdoor Explosion, Ford’s PBR Outdoors, Redfields Redzone and Fly Fishing the World. Currently we are in production on “Reloading Our Heritage”, this show is teamed with Rob Keck. We are trying to reload our heritage introducing non-hunters and inspiring new mentors into our outdoor lifestyle. This show is going to go live on Carbon TV starting the fall of 2021.
Betsy Wandtke:
Betsy Wandtke was the former Director of Operations for “Weatherby Foundation International”.
Betsy’s passion for the outdoors and to get youth and women introduced to the wonders of nature and hunting/fishing brought her to collaborate with other like-minded friends and she partnered to form a nonprofit – “The Great American Mentors” matching outdoor mentors and youth on life-altering trips. Over the years, the nonprofit evolved to “Reloading our Heritage” complete with videos of kids experiencing many “firsts” in the field.
Betsy love to hunt/fish in the United States, brought her to travel all over the world in other hunting and fishing adventures. She has hunted many parts of Africa, Mozambique, Australia and New Zealand. She has also hunted and fished many areas of Manitoba for moose, wolves and the great whitetail bucks of central Manitoba.
